Fayemi Drags Ekiti Assembly To court, Demands N500M Damages
A former Governor of Ekiti State , Dr Kayode Fayemi has dragged the Ekiti State House of Assembly to court demanding 500 million naira damages .
Fayemi who is currently the minister for mines and steel Development wants the court to determine whether the Ekiti State House Assembly can conduct inquiry, investigate or cause anyone to investigate any allegation of financial misappropriation leveled against him without due compliance with the provision of section 128 sub section 1 of the 1999 constitution.
Among other reliefs the former Governor is seeking are; a declaration that the purported summons and warrant of arrest issued by the Ekiti State house of Assembly against him have been issued in gross violation of the provisions of sections 128 & 129 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The former Governor also wants the state Assembly and it's speaker to tender a public apology to him for the embarrassment and public ridicule the issuance of summon and warrant of arrest has caused him in print and electronics media.
Also joined in the suit were the Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Kola Oluwawole, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and Commissioner of Police in the State, Abdullahi Chaffe.
The Ekiti State House of Assembly had on February this year summon the former Governor and consequently issued a warrant of arrest against the minister over what it described as financial misappropriation during his tenure as the Governor of the state.
