National Issues:Saraki, Dogara Meet Buhari
President Of the Nigerian senate Bukola Saraki has described the Committee set up by the Federal government to resolve the impasse between the legislative and executive arms Of government as a good development.
Saraki was speaking to Journalists on Monday shortly after he met with president Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The senate president whose visit to the villa is becoming more regular in recent times said what is currently going on between the legislature and Executive is not unusual in a democracy.
He However reassured Nigerians of the commitment of the National assembly to work in line with public expectations and interest.
On the suspension of former senate leader Ali Ndume and the subsequent move by Borno state Governor Kashim Shettima to appeal for a soft landing for the embattled senator,The senate President said he does not have the powers to unilaterally reverse the decision of the senate but promised to bring up Governor Shettima's concerns on the floor of the upper legislative chamber.
Speaker Of Nigeria's house of representatives Yakubu Dogara who also held a closed door meeting with president Buhari told reporters that his visit to the villa on Monday was nothing unusual.
He said what many people see as crisis between the executive and legislature are normal processes that help strengthen democracy and promote the principles of separation of powers as well as checks and balances.
The meeting between president Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the National assembly comes few days after the setting up of a committee to resolve the feud between the executive and legislature.
The senate had last week refused to consider the list of 27 INEC Resident Electoral commissioner Nominees sent to it by President Buhari,Citing disrespect for Some senate resolutions by the executive as reasons for the action.
