Osun state callisthenics programme is now part of extra curricular activities that will avail one school from the 9 federal constituencies in the state to compete against one another.

The programme which now has a new template to give more students the opportunity to participate, is aimed at instilling discipline among other virtues in the school children.

"From 2017 henceforth, therefore, pursuant to our desire to bring the game to wider grassroots constituencies, a new template for the programme has been adopted and these include:

1. One selected school each in all the nine Federal constituencies is designed as a training centre.

2.Students from the Training centre and one other public schools (as well as any other interested private schools) in the proximity of the centre will constitute a Federal constituency Callisthenics Team of between 1,000 and 1,500 students.

3. Participation of students will be on Voluntary basis with the full support of their parents. Attendance is made easier because most of the training will take place on school days having made proper allowances without major disruption to the academic schedule".

This was made known at a press conference heralding a training workshop for coaches of the programme, in Osogbo, the state capital.

Mr Adebayo Ojo, Director, Dept. Of Social and Grassroots Mobilization & Guidance, Office of Osun state Governor, addressing journalists at a press conference in Osogbo, On Thursday.

The Director, Department of Social grassroots mobilization and guidance, office of the governor, Mr Adebayo Ojo, who addressed the conference explained that the new template as approved by Governor Rauf Aregbesola will not only allow interested private school participation, but, will also be voluntarily.

"Mr Governor has graciously approved the 2017 Osun Statewide Calisthenics programme on this template, which now allows many more thousand students at the grassroot levels across the state to benefit from the earlier highlighted benefits"

He said although the state government will still be responsible for the training funding, support would be sought from social and  corporate organisations for sponsorship.

While stressing that the programme which falls under extra curricular activities will not affect the academics activities of the pupils badly, Ojo disclosed that Efforts are underway to institutionalize the programme in the state school academic calendar.
