Osun United Romp To Osun Federation Cup Win.

Osun United won the Osun State Federation Cup on sunday morning after defeating their arch rival Ede United 6-5 via penalty shoot outs.

The Omoluabi Giants who have dominated Osun football in recent seasons, winning the Federation cup six years in a row were hoping to cotinue doing that, but Ede United were looking to end the good run.

Alaji Rasaq strucked in his last penalty kick for Osun United, before Tijani Isamail's spot kick for Ede United hit the upper woodwork and ended his team's quest to lift the State Federation Cup trophy for the first time in seven years.

Victor Okeji scored in the 13th minute for the defending champion, after finding a space just around the 12 yard box to beat goalkeeper Babatunde Kayode.

But Ede United hit back three minutes later when Tunde Afolayan took advantage of the Osun United defensive lapses to equalise, he finds a bit of room down the left of the penalty area and fires a fierce shot at goal from a tight angle that rendered Muhammed Ali helpless in goal.

Five minutes into the second half, with the cacophonous noise from the crowd,  new entrant and captain Hakeem Olalere restored the lead of the Omoluabi Giants when he nodded in a Chigozie Obasi cross from a free-kick earlier given, to give his team a 2-1 lead early on.

With the game remaining at 2-1, Ede United kept on routing on the Omoluabi Giants, until a chance finally came in for an equaliser in the 55th minute of the game.

Sodiq Tunde bravely hit high to the goal post when goalkeeper Alli came out from his territory and got displaced as the ball landed just at the top corner to make it 2-2 for the Ede based side.

The game continued as both sides tried to get the winner with Osun United getting most of the chances late on in the second half but the goals never came in as the defensive pair of Saheed Bala and Hammed Sakiru kept their side safe.

As extra time loomed, the pressure was much on Ede United goalkeeper as Tosin Omoyele goal was disallowed by referee Joy Ogunboye for scoring with his hand and thereby was handed a yellow card for his unruly behaviour.

The game however ended in a 2-2 draw as the referee from Ondo State signalled for penalty shoot outs.

Osun United finally won 5-6 on penalties after seven kicks with Kehinde Adeyemi losing a kick for Osun United, while Hammed Sakiru and Tijani Ismail lost two Ede United kicks.

In his remarks after the game, Ede United Manager Sulaiman Kamaldeen praised his players for staying strong and holding on to an experienced Osun United side. He also stated that his team lost the game on hardluck as they couldn't convert their chances earlier on.

Meanwhile, Osun united skipper Hakeem Olalere said  he is happy for the win and hopes that it will spur them to do greater things ahead, in both the league and the national federation cup.

Both teams will represent Osun State in the National Federation Cup which will commence next month as the State Football Association Chairman, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi also expressed confidence and optimism in the two sides.
