Breaking : Osun Market Women Storm Osogbo, Protest Against Omoluabi Scale

Market women in Osun State thursday staged a peaceful protest in Osogbo against enforcement of the use of Weighing Scale recently introduced by the Osun State Government.
Chanting various songs against the use of the Weighing Scale, the protesters staged their protest at Olaiya Junction and at the Osun State Government Secretariat for more than two hours. This is coming as the state government vows that there is no going back in the usage of the new weighing scale. Rasheed Rasheed has more.
Before now, the normal weighing scale IN use by market women in Osun is the conventional module, but the state government introduced a new weighing scale called osuwon  omoluabi IN 2015. The enforcement of its usage however came few days ago but met the resistance of market women.
In continuation of their resentment and rejection of the new weighing scale, representatives of market women in Osun state converged on Osogbo to stage a peace protest first at popular Olaiya roundabout and later proceeded to the state government secretariat.
The market women who all held their modules to the protest said the use of Weighing Scale should start at various farm markets where they all buy their goods from.They vowed to resist implementation of the use of the weighing scale and confront whoever come to seize goods in their markets henceforth.
Addressing the protesters, Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce, Femi Popoola said introduction of Weighing Scale is in the interest of both the sellers and buyers noting that the protest has shown that a lot of education and enlightenment is required of them.
The state govt however promised to meet with leaders of various groups in all the markets on the acceptability of the weighing scale as a means of measuring goods.
