Lassa Fever : Ondo State Records 4 New Cases



Four new cases of Lassa fever have been recorded in Ondo State.

The permanent secretary ministry of health, Dr Taiwo Oni, confirmed that the fresh cases involved two persons in Akoko south west area of the state and three others in Owo.

He said of the three cases in Owo, one was recorded at achievers university, while the other two was recorded in Owo metropolis.

Dr Oni said those involved have been isolated to prevent further spread of the disease.

He explained that efforts are on to trace and save those that might have contact with the victims.

The permanent secretary stressed that the state government is collaborating with the federal medical centre, Owo, in handling in the recorded cases.

He called on the people of the State with recoring fever to visit the nearest government hospital for necessary attention.

The vice chancellor of Achievers university, professor Tunji Ibiyemi, said the female student involved must have contracted the disease from her off camp residence.

He noted that the student has been receiving medical treatment at the federal medical centre, Owo, and would soon be discharged.
