Hate speech is terrorism - Osinbajo
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo says hate speech will no longer be tolerated and will henceforth be taken as an act of terrorism beginning from today.
Speaking at the special National Economic council security retreat on Thursday at the Aso Rock Villa, professor Osinbajo warned that the federal government will deal decisively with those who indulge in hate speech.
The acting president challenged community leaders not to tolerate hate speech in their domain noting that doing so is a disservice to the nation.
While noting that security is s collective enterprise that requires the cooperation of all arms of government, the acting president explained that is not secured cannot be administered.
Before going into a closed door session, professor Osinbajo noted that the country cannot solve its problems if it continues with the same level of thinking.
The special National Economic Council retreat on security is coming following a presentation made by the National Security Adviser at the NEC meeting of April 20, 2017.
A decision was taken to devote a day on matters of national security.
Governors in attendance are: Delta, Jigawa, Akwa Ibom, Sokoto, Zamfara, Adamawa, Niger, Kano, Plateau, Borno,Rivers,Kebbi,Lagos,Abia,Oyo Kogi,Kwara, Osun and Eboyi state.
Deputy Governors in attendance are: Bayelsa, Kaduna, Ogun. Yobe, Ekiti, Amambra,Edo, Cross Rivers. Enugu, Benue and Ondo.
Also in attendance are: Service Chiefs, IGP, heads of security agencies, state commissioners of police, heads of para military agencies, heads of parastatals, members of the federal executive council, National Security Adviser, chief of staff to the president, deputy chief of staff, Chief Justice of Nigeria.
