Leaders of Yoruba thought had stated resolution of the nation-state for restructuring on regional line. This they say is the only panacea for the continuous peaceful existence of the country.
The resolution was passed at the Yoruba summit on restructuring held in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
Since the failure of the devolution of power bill at the National assembly constitution review session, there has been renewed call for restructuring of the federal system of government.
Gathered at the Lejlkan Salami Stadium venue of the summit are representatives of various ethnic groups making up the Yoruba nation state, traditional rulers, heads of pan Yoruba groups and other frontline Yoruba sons and daughters. Though only governor fayose of the PDP was present, all other APC governors of the southwest were absent with Osun state governor Rauf Aregbesola been represented.
The Ekiti state governor Ayodele Fayose in his words warns Yoruba as an entity to be vigilant over what he called enemies within.
"To me there is no alternative to restructuring. We must face the reality. I align myself with the call for going back to our previous regional arrangement and structure. If we call for that and they say there is no way, then let them give us our own republic" Fayose submitted
Fayose added that the governors who were absent would have been present for the fear of political reprisal.
The resolution of various groups suggests restructuring along regional line as they warn of dire consequences if this fails.
While the issue of defence are agreed to be the exclusive right of federal govt, some however believe that the continues existence of Nigeria is inevitable
The summit was also attended by leaders from other ethnic groups in solidarity with the position of Yoruba nation .
