Nigerian Air Force launches clinic for Benue flood victims
The Nigerian Air Force has launched a temporary mobile clinic in Makurdi, Benue State capital in North Central Nigeria for free treatment of flood victims.
The flood victims are being sheltered at the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs Camp in Makurdi.
Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar who declared the free treatment open expressed the concerns of the Force over the devastating conditions of the flood victims.
Represented by the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command Head Quarters, Makurdi, the Chief of Air Staff said he was worried over the situation the flood victims are passing through.
Areas of Intervention
The NAF explained that its area of intervention would focus on improved personal and environmental hygiene, water sanitation, and provision of food items.
“Sick ones will be admitted here and given adequate treatment, but very severe cases that cannot be handled here will be referred to the NAF Base Clinic, Federal Medical Center and Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi,” he said.
Air Marshall Abubakar also informed that NAF Choppers had arrived in the state to rescue victims who may have been trapped by the flood.

He also described the losses incurred by the victims as a “huge disaster” and called on individuals, corporate organizations and the federal government to extend more support to the government and people of Benue State in this trying moment.
“The NAF commiserate with all the victims of the flood and share in the pains and difficulties being experienced by these individuals whose lives have been disturbed for no fault of theirs,” he stated.
He added that the medical intervention was an opportunity for the NAF to help victims of the flood even as he thanked the government of Benue State and pledged to cooperate with the state in enhancing its security and development.
The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom commended the prompt intervention of the Nigerian Air Force especially for providing a medical outstation to attend to the health needs of the Internally Displaced Persons.
Governor Ortom also directed the immediate distribution of the relief materials provided by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA to the flood victims in the state.
The governor urged the officials in charge of the relief materials to ensure equitable distribution of the pre-assessment items to all the flood victims in the state.
He stated that the state government would continue to do everything within its limited resources to provide comfort for the displaced persons, even as he called on stakeholders to assist the IDPs close to them through the provision of shelter and relief materials.
