Anambra Police Arrest Randy MOPOL Barau Accused Of Abduction And Rape Of Minor

The police command in Anambra state has confirmed the arrest of one police officer over alleged abduction and defilement of a 14-year old girl in Onitsha, Anambra state.

The suspect, Corporal Garba Barau, was last week, said to have allegedly abducted and severally defiled the girl in Okpoko area of the commercial city.


When the news of the alleged defilement of a 14 year old girl by corporal Garba Barau filtered into town, Nigerians condemned the act and called for the arrest and prosecution of the suspect.

Barau was reported to have been posted to the state command on a special assignment to the Anambra  from Sokoto under Mopol 7, Sokoto, was said to had kept the victim under his custody.

Addressing newsmen  at the police headquarters in Amawbia, the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Garba, said the suspected policeman has been arrested and currently  facing internal disciplinary procedures and would be arraigned before the appropriate court as soon as the criminal investigation against him is concluded.

CP Umar described the incident as unfortunate, a scenario regarded as an isolated case which does not reflect the core values and ethics of the Nigerian police force.

 Umar assured that the command would ensure that justice is done  to serve as deterrent for others to learn.

The police commissioner further disclosed that  the arrest was followed by an allegation leveled against the suspect at a police station, adding that the action did not reflect the core values and ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.
