Anti- Oyegun Protest Rocks APC's NEC Meeting, Seek Oyegun's Removal

Targeting the APC NEC meeting scheduled for monday, protesters under under the aegis of
Save APC And Democracy Youth Vanguard (SADEMVA), stormed the Blantyre street headquarters of the ruling Party this Monday, October 30th, 2017 and almost disrupted the NEC meeting scheduled to hold at the venue.

The protesters in their hundreds were calling for the removal of  the chairman of the party Chief John Odiefie-Oyegun.

Oyegun has been in running battle with certain strong stakeholders of the Party due to perceived estrangement of his erstwhile political allies who were instrumental to his emergence as national chairman and allegations of favouritism, patronage, and corruption.

Top on the list are Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former VP Atiku Abubakar and a host of others.

Oyegun has also been drawn the ire and sharp critic of younger elements of the Party like Timi Franks who has been Oyegun's persistent critic and vociferous in demanding that Oyegun be sacked.

Oyegun is said to have courted the enmity of so many powerful forces within the Party, especially potential presidential aspirants,he is also rumored to have committed himself to making sure the current president has an easy ride in winning the Party's presidential candidacy come 2018 a step which  has alienated him from considerable percentage of Party members and leaders.

The protest was led by zonal coordinators of (SADEMVA). Ishola Adeshina who is the southwestern zonal coordinator says the protest is expedient in order to "arrest the rotten state of APC from the inept leadership of John Odigie-Oyegun"

The protesters displayed various placards saying "Oyegun must Go", " We Love Buhari but Oyegun must leave", among other enchanting write ups and songs.

The protesters were however disappointed that the NEC meeting scheduled to hold at the Party's National headquarters had been moved elsewhere. They remained at the Party's headquarters until about 12:56 pm when the embattled national chairman finally emerged in a convoy. The protesters who attempted to block his convoy from gaining entrance into the Party Secretariat but were finally persuaded to let the national chairman enter after pleadings by security agents around.

The protesters blocked the main road which led to a rapid buildup of traffic when they later took their protests to the Adetokunbo Ademola Way en route the Eagle Square for more protests.

According to close sources, the protest was a great embarrassment to the chairman.

This was an embarrassing situation for the ruling party and its national chairman.
Oyegun is dogged by allegations of corrupt enrichment, several constitutional violations and running a one man show among other serious allegations.

There are indications that the embattled national chairman is not feeling too secure in his position as opposition and protests against his office are likely to increase in the coming days.

It is said that allegations of corruption and sharp practices in the management of the Party are being compiled against him by top Party officials whom Oyegun has sidelined in the running of the Party.

The protesters vowed to continue their protests on Tuesday and beyond until Oyegun resigns or is removed.
