Breaking: Ekiti State University Students On Rampage

The students of the Ekiti state university Ado-Ekiti are currently laying siege to the entrance of the school, barricading all sort of entry.

The protest is linked to the new mid-semester examination examination introduced by the school management. According to sources who spoke with TimeNewsNG, the examination was introduced so as for students to make up in the payment of their school fee and other sundry charges as he school is being run solely on it's Internally Generated Revenue without any subvention from the state government.

"The money drive of the school is very excruciating and Hugh for the students. But the school also has no help than to raise these monies to function" the source added

The students however are also bent on not writing the examination due to nonavailability of funds.

Some who spoke with TimeNewsNG lament the exorbitant rate of charges in the school.

"We will pay four thousand five hundred Naira as portal fee, Seven thousand Five hundred Naira as " Smart School fee", this is just apart from the tuition fee with Ninety five thousand Naira been the least for Old students. The new entrants in the faculty of law are paying One hundred thousand Naira as acceptance fee. Can you imagine that? And most of our parents are civil servants who are being owed by the same Ekiti government who decided not to fund the school and coupled with the harsh economic condition across the nation. So we are not ready to wrote this exam because they money they want to generate, we don't have."

All lecturers and workers upon seeing the situation are turning back home.

Security agencies are yet to be seen just as the protest as of now is still peaceful, but may become violent if the students are not curtailed. The school just resumed from a four month old strike due to the loggerheads between the school Academic staff Union and the state government over salaries and emoluments.
