UNIOSUN SHOOTING: YOU ARE GODFATHERS OF "YAHOO BOYS", OSUN STUDENTS TELL POLICE
The National Association of Osun state Students NAOSS has lend its voice in
condemning the fatal shooting of two students of the Osun State University
which led to civil unrest in Osogbo over the weekend. In a statement signed and
released by the Association's national president Bashiru Oladejo and made
available to TimeNewsNg in Osogbo, the student body condemened in strong terms
the the shooting and the reasons provided by the trigger happy police.
The statement read in part " We are not unaware of the claim of the
police that they are searching for advance fee fraudsters (Yahoo Boys) which
resulted to physical engagement. We are bold to say that the motive and
intention of police team searching for Yahoo boys is to extort rather than
punish crime".
The umbrella body for Osun state students also express dismay on the attack
saying it is in gross violation of the students' right to life and gross
misconduct of the police officers. The police Special Anti-robbery Squared
(SARS) was also fingered as the most dreaded in the extortion racket.
While the student body in the release condemned advanced fee fraud and its
perpetrators, it however made a poser to the police "The question we are
asking are: in the last two years how many so call Yahoo Boys have been arrested?
How many prosecuted? How many have been convicted? Answers to those questions
with available statistics will show that the police are just collecting its own
part of the advanced fee fraud, not to prosecute or punish anyone.
Meanwhile, The Osun state police command had promised to investigate the
matter with the Commisioner of Police Fimihan Adeoye paying regular visit to
the injured students who are currently recieving treatment at LAUTECH teaching
Hospital in Osogbo.
