VIDEO : RETRENCHED POLICE OFFICERS CRY OUT "WE'RE RECIEVING ALERTS OF SALARY WE DON'T GET"
Some retired police officers from the Osun state command of
the Nigeria police force have called on the President and the national
assembly to come to their aid in ensuring their reinstatement as they
claimed they have been falsely retrenched.
They made the plea during a save our soul protest and press parley in osogbo, the Osun state capital.
The officers who were retired in 2007 said the excuse
behind their retrenchment was over age but affirm that the 144 of them
that were retrenched in the state were at the time not beyond the
service age.
Retrenchment, retirement and other means of disengagement
from service is a regular issue in the police like many other government
agencies.
However, the retrenchment was of some 144 officers from
osun during a nationawide retren hment excercise in 2007 within the rank
of constable and coporal in the force is causing some ripples as the
officers are now calling on the appropriate authorities including the
presidency, the national assembly and the police service commission to
look into their case since a signal directing their reinstatement had
long been issued after their retrenchment.
They claimed the allegations of over age, forgery and
perjury levelled against them has been cleared through series of
screening which they have been subject to.
Track 1 Ibrahim shuaibu. Spokesperson for the retired officers.
The retired officers debunked a presentation made by the IG
before the senate committee in January that they were all dead as false
since they have been summoned for several screenings at the police
service commission and the force headquarters in Abuja.
A twist was however brought into the matter as the retired
officers claimed they are still being sent pension deductions
notifications on their salary by the pensions board.
The question now is, if these retired officers are not the one receiving payments, who are those receiving it in their names?
