Import Duty Saga: Saraki Denies Involvement

President of the senate Bukola Saraki has outrightly denied personally importing any vehicle and asserts that there are no documents bearing his name as having cleared an SUV from any port in Nigeria.

This comes as the committee on ethics and privileges continued investigation on allegations by senator Ali Ndume that the President of the senate imported a bullet proof Range Rover SUV with fake papers

He says the issue is all about people trying to ridicle the senate because of the obnoxious policy on import duty of the customs which he says is anti people.

Although senator Ndume claimed he has no documents backing his claims, he says all he had is pedestrian rumours which he felt he should bring to the floor of the senate as according to him, members of the public believe that this is why the senate is engaging the comptroller general of customs negatively.

However the importer of the alleged SUV Tokunbo Akindele said the car was imported for his company's use and was cleared by there agents, duty paid, armoured and delivered to them.

According to Akindele, the car has no bearing to the President of the senate.
