Just In: Fuel-Laden Truck Hijacked In Osun, Driver Killed


The nefarious activity of fuel hijackers especially within Ikire axis of Ibadan-Ilesha high way is becoming one crime too many.

In the early hours of Friday July 14th, another fuel laden truck was hijacked by these dare devil robbers. The truck driver was however not kicky as he was killed before the arrival of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps who rescued the other man in the truck.

In a short statement released by the  Corps Public Relations Unit " Armed Robbers hijacked a petroleum tanker with plate number SHA 592 XA Kwara at Asejire area along Ikire Ibadan express way .It happened around 2:30am,the driver had already been killed by the time our armed squad patrol van got there,immediately they saw the officers and men of the Corps,they took to their heels. The other man was rescued.

Investigation is on going on how to apprehend the armed robbers, the Commissioner of police had been informed and the officers of the Nigerian police had removed the dead body at the early hours of today(Friday)".

Background checks by TimeNewsNg however revealed that the said armed robbers are either working for some petroleum marketers or being one themselves.

According to a high placed source, the menace of fuel hijacking has been on for quite a while. The leadership of NUNPENG find it so hard to come out and condemn the act because they know the perpetrators are within them, so they are afraid of some reprisals from these men of the underworld.

in that same Ikire area when a truck was nearly hijacked but for the timely intervention of the Civil defence, the truck was taken to their headquarters in Osogbo and all efforts made by the command to persuade the leadership of the tanker drivers to speak with journalists was turned down by them. If not for these Civil Defense people that always come to our aid, it would have been worse than this" the source submitted
