The Osun State Government has described as disappointing, blatant lies the allegations by the Ondo State Commissioner for Youths and Sport Saka-Yusuf Ogunleye that the Osun United Football club attacked the Sunshine Stars of Akure during their last encounter in Ijebu-ode, Ogun State on Sunday.
The state commissioner for Social protection, sports and special needs, Biyi Odunlade stated this at a press conference in Osogbo, the state capital.
Odunlade said "May I quickly establish the fact that hooliganism and violence are synonymous with the Sunshine Stars of Akure as it has caused untold hardships and pains on many Nigerian clubs in the past and get banished from its Akure home ground. It should be noted that the Sunshine Stars FC, on the account of thuggery displayed in one of its recent matches was banished to Ijebu-Ode for its own matches because of the hooliganism and vicious hacking of the players, officials and supporters of opposition teams"
Odunlade who claimed that Mr Saka-Yusuf lied by his account that the Osun United FC players and their supporters were the ones who attacked the Sunshine Stars at the venue, said reverse indeed was the case.
"It is unfortunate that Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Mr Saka Yusuf Ogunleye could stoop so low to the level of lying to defend the indefensible – the uncivilized, criminal, and barbaric actions of the uncultured players and supporters of the Sunshine FC. It is not the first time they were caught in such behavior and like we noted earlier, the leopard will not change its skin" Odunlade retorted.
According to him, two players and 4 supporters of the Osun United FC were allegedly injured and five vehicles were destroyed by the Sunshine Stars FC and their supporters during the attack.
At the press conference was the state commissioner for information and strategy Lani Baderinwa who believes the incident had nothing to do with the attack on the state commissioner for Regional Integration Bola Ilori at a programme In Akure last Thursday.
The commissioner further stated that the matter has since been reported to police and the Nigeria Football Federation, saying it will be followed to a logical conclusion.
