LG Election:Osun To Adopt Parliamentary System - Kolapo Alimi

Osun state Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs Barrister Kolapo Alimi speaking with journalists in office. 


Baring all circumstances, local government elections will be conducted in Osun state not later than January 2018.

The state Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kolapo Alimi who disclosed this during an interview in his office,also said parliamentary system would be adopted.

Some political analysts and Residents of Osogbo,the state capital say it is a welcome development that is long overdue.

For about seven years since the advent of the Rauf Aregbesola's administration in Osun state, Calls have been continually made for elected representatives of the people at the various local governments in the state.

The delay in the conduct of the election according to the state commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy Affairs Kolapo Alimi was due to litigations initiated by the opposition parties and paucity of funds.

Alimi said the coast is now clear to hold the election after the Supreme Court judgement on the matter and the state government is ready to bring government closer to the people, using parliamentary system.

The proposed local government elections and the system to be adopted,two political analysts Waheed Lawal And John Adelana say are noble ideas.

To the people at the grassroots,Bashir Adejumo and Lanre Adewale, it is a welcome development that is better late than never.

They also believe that the proposed parliamentary system would reduce the cost of governance. 

Keen watchers believe, local government as the closest to the people is the only way to bring development to the doorstep of common man.
