NASS Showdown: APC Senators Meet With Oshiomhole As Saraki Holds Closed Door Meeting With Obasanjo
Ahead the possible Tuesday reconvening of the National Assembly, the opposing camps are apparently putting finishing touches to their strategies as the impeachment plot of senate president Bukola Saraki gets thicker.
Senators from the All Progressives Congress, APC are currently meeting at the Abuja residence of the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole,
Reasons for the meeting may be unknown, it will however not be unconnected to the Tuesday seating as the All Progressives Congress have been all out to ask Bukola Saraki to step down or get himself impeached.
But just as the APC Senators are meeting, senator Bukola Saraki was also at the hilltop mansion of ex president Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta
Mr Saraki arrived the home of his host located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library on Monday evening and the meeting lasted for forty five minutes.
The embattled senate president had last week also met with former military ruler, Ibrahim Babangida, in the latter’s home in Minna, Niger State.
Mr Saraki’s meeting with the past leaders is believed to be related to the 2019 elections. He recently defected from the ruling APC to the opposition PDP.
Like Mr Saraki, Messrs Obasanjo and Babangida are both expected to work against the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
But as these scheming is on, there is possibility of the National Assembly not to reconvene on Tuesday after all.
This latest development is contrary the announcement made by the Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Rt Hon Lasun Yussuff last week.
The Spokesman of the House of Representative, Abdulrazak Namdas, made this known on Monday, August 13.
It was gathered that Namdas noted that the House is yet to decide on a reconvening date.
The deputy speaker had last week announced that the National Assembly would reconvene on Tuesday to consider the budget for the 2019 polls and other pending issues forwarded to lawmakers by President Buhari in July.
