LAUTECH Students Protest Over Hike In School Fees
Students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, trooped off to the streets of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, in their numbers on Tuesday morning, to protest the hike in the fees introduced by the management of the university.
The protesting students, who are armed with placards with various inscription rejecting the hike are mainly from the College of Health Sciences of the university located in Osogbo.
The protest has been peaceful while policemen are monitoring the situation to prevent hoodlums from hijacking it.
The student said the new fee regime of between N200,000 and N250, 000 per student was unacceptable describing it as a manifestation of the insensitivity of the governments of the two states.
One of the leaders of the protesting students, Israel Fawole, who is also the Chairman of Save Education and Reopen LAUTECH Students Coalition, denounced the hike, saying the increment was an attempt to privatize education.
The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho has finally increased tuition fees across all levels and faculties from N65,000 – N200000 (Indigene of Oyo & Osun States) and Non – Indigene from N720000 – N250000 (Non-Indigene) respectively.
In a statement signed by the registrar of the school, J.A Agboola dated Monday, October 15, 2018 which was made available to Newsmen, it was revealed that the increment cuts across all levels and faculties as there’s a sharp increase from #65,000 to #200,000 for indigenes and #72,000 to #250000 for non-Indigenes for both freshers and returning students.
