VP's Wife Advocated Improved Women Participation in Governance
Nigerian women have been charged to harness their potentials towards contributing to meaningful national development.
Wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo gave the charge in Osogbo at the 2019 National Women's Conference organised by Osun Women Development Association, OSUNWA.
With the theme "Woman: pioneer of change for inclusive participation in development".the event was to chart a new course for improved participation of women in inclusive governance.
Speaking, wife of the governor of Osun state who is also the host, Khafayat Oyetola said, the forum has registered its footprints in the development of the state and it will continue to embark on meaningful programmes for the benefit of all.
Wives of Lagos, Ondo, Ogun and Ekiti state governors called for unity among women and more development initiatives to aid their quest for equal opportunities.
The first ladies cited low percentage of women in the National Assembly as a clarion call for women to strive for better participation in government.
They urged all Nigerians to support political aspirations of Women for even development of the nation.
Also speaking, governor Oyetola of Osun state stressed that his administration will continue to support women initiative programmes.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola expressed his administration's commitment to be gender sensitive.
He urged the first ladies and other stakeholders to employ more sustainable strategies to galvanise more women into political participation and development process.
Recall that six women out of 35 people made the list of his cabinet nominees recently submitted to the state House of Assembly for screening in the state
According to the national Bureau of Statistics, women constitutes 49.2% of the country's population but only few of them are in governance, a trend the first ladies want to be reversed.
