Senate Suspends RECs Confirmation In Protest Against Presidency
The Nigerian Senate On Tuesday Resolved to step down the confirmation of nominees for positions of Resident Electoral Commissioners.
The senators during plenary presided over by the senate President, Bukola Saraki expressed their disappointment that President Muhammad Buhari has refused to sack the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu after he was rejected twice.
Magu was also accused of terrorising and ridiculing the seante because of his disqualification.
The senators while bearing their views one after another claimed that Buhari's appointees have always been disrespecting the National Assembly.
The senators cited Magu's case as an example, saying that even after their rejection, he is still acting as chairman of the EFCC.
This, according to them is belittling, disrespectful, ridiculing and unacceptable.
"If the senate is ridiculed, our institution has been ridiculed, we will try as much as possible to promote this institution" senator Anyanwu said.
The senate after much deliberations resolved to step down the confirmation for two weeks in protest, while their feelings should be communicated to the President.

President Buhari had last week nominated 27persons for appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners Of INEC.
