The Ekiti state house of assembly has declared
vacant the seat of a suspended member of the house Gboyega Aribisogan
representing Ikole constituency 1.
This is shortly after the state working committee of the Peoples Democratic
Party of the Makarfi faction announced his expulsion after he has tendered his
defection letter to the house of assembly leadership. The Governor Ayodele Fayose faction of the state working committee of the PDP says it approved the recommendation of a five man committee set up to look into all the allegations of anti party activities against aribisogan, where the committee held that Aribisogan should be expelled from the PDP.
Aribisogan had earlier in the day (Monday) also announced his defection to the All Progressives congress. Gboyega Aribisogan, the member of the house representing Ikole constituency 1who was earlier suspended for 180 legislative days had been in a running battle with the leadershop of the Ekiti state house of Assembly leadership and by extension with governor Ayodele Fayose.
Aribisogan while speaking to newsmen before his formal declaration in Ijesha-Isu his hometown said his defection was based on his personal conviction about the pdp’s unending crises and the negative effect its having on the people of his constituency.
In his reaction, the speaker of the Ekiti state house of Assembly Kola Oluwawole said with the defection of Aribisogan to APC, his seat at the house is now vacant.
Aribisogan at his decamping ceremony lashed out at the state governor Ayodele Fayose, calling him an ingrate and a dictator who betrayed those who brought him to power. Aribisogan thus apologized to his constituents for helping in the project which brought Fayose back to power.
The question on the lips of all now is if, the house of assembly possess that power and authority to declare the seat of a Gboyega Aribisoagn vacant or if that is the responsibility of the party which sponsored him or his constituents or the court of law.
